eleventyoneLJ is down and you have to read the terms of service and agree to them to log in. Usually I just click yes, but I'd kind of like to know what they changed. I had read that the servers are now mostly in Russia, or Russian owned. With reports from Wikipedia that iPhones, iPads and Android phones are all bugged by the US govt., I guess there is not much choice, if I want to blog, except that I do have a Wordpress blog. But I never use it.

That is about the change in December, a "no political solicition" clause--maybe--in the new TOS. What it also says, right at the beginning, that LJ is owned by a Russian company since 2007. I am not sure how I failed to notice that. Well, I am, but don't care to go into my misfortunes.

Those are 6.3 and 6.3.1 in the TOS today. Not sure if that is the change. [edit, 4.19.17: there is a post by denise saying what the change to the TOS is at LJ: No political solicitation! People aren't leaving because they think LJ is dying, they're leaving because there are new Russian TOS that state you can't post anything critical of the Russian government or pro-LGBT. A lot of users on here are LGBT so they're not comfortable with that and fear their journals getting deleted because of this. Also https has been removed so now your password and email address aren't safe anymore. The servers moved to Russia in December as well and if you've been following everything that's been going on in the world then you would know that Russia has a very sophisticated internet program that tries to damage other countries and influence things through hacking, spreading disinformation, etc. They were behind the big Yahoo hack a few years ago and used the information for their own gains. The Russian government is corrupt and has a lot of ties with big businesses in Russia so people aren't comfortable that the Russian government is going to be able to access their email address, passwords, and personal things they have posted on their journals. That's cool if you don't want to leave but I don't think you should judge other people for doing so. " ]2_on on April 19th, 2017 02:09 am (UTC)
